2018 NAV-X #2 - Las Trampas - Results

IMG_0064.JPG

We couldn't have gotten any luckier on Sunday with the timing of our event, getting to enjoy a beautiful day in Las Trampas before the late afternoon rain hit us.  The conditions enticed a lot of first timers who got a chance to enjoy some spectacular views along Calavares Ridge, and had some encouragement from Kyle Peter who set out to help and take photos.  Visit our facebook page to find more event photos (Link to Facebook Album).  To those of you who ventured further, you no doubt were challenged by this parks steep terrain, and Gavins 48 controls.  We had our biggest turnout in NAV-X history, with 127 map trekkers showing up.

We had some very impressive performances in all of the categories; congratulations to everyone who raced well, or had fun! Full results for Las Trampas can be found here (please e-mail us with any corrections: info@navxchallenge.org):

2018 NAV-X #1 - Briones - Results

2018 NAV-X #1 - Briones - Results

Aaaah!  The coastal range in the spring - does it get any better? Short grass, no pricklies and green, green, green (OK, so the poison oak can be bad, but we will ignore that fact for a moment).  We were blessed with a completely rain free day, overcast skies and low wind which made for near-perfect running conditions.  This showed in some of the results with a notable standout performance by newcomer Loren Baker who cleared the tough 4-hour course for the win.

BAOC’s Joe Grant event the day after clearly kept some of the usual suspects away, but we had a lot of new faces join us, and by most accounts, a good time was had by all!  87 participants on a rain-threatened season opener is pretty good.  We hope to see everyone return (and then some) at Las Trampas on Sunday April 15th for the second installment of the NAV-X Challenge Series.

Heidi Cusworth set a fun and challenging course for both 2 hour and 4 hour divisions.  There is no shortage of hills at Briones, and the well-stocked food table was reduced to crumbs by the hungry mob returning from their hilly map adventures.  Now for the results.

  4. 820    Lori Hubermann (Presto!)
  5. 740    Eric Rosenzweig

  2. 2210    Charles Triponez (Team Bones)
  3. 2140    Joshua Wiley
  4. 1900    Lubomir Sebo

A few volunteer recognitions are in order.  Special thanks to the 2017 NAV-X Challenge Series winner (Masters Male) Roy Malone, who was not able to compete, but instead went out and collected ALL controls on Sunday.  With all the equipment on top of the full 4 hr course, that makes for a big day - thanks Roy!  Huge thanks also to the following people (in no particular order) without whom this event would not have been possible:

Vicki Woolworth - Permit & Insurance, check-in, breakdown
Heidi Cusworth - Course design
Dennis Wilkinson - Course setting, check-in, beginner clinics and breakdown
Bill Cusworth - Registrations and results
Kyle Peter - Setup, raffle prizes, breakdown
